On March 14, 2020, county operations, other than essential services, ceased and the Montgomery County Domestic Relations Section was faced with an immediate challenge: how to transform an office that sees 400+ people per day into an entity that would enable them to serve that same population remotely, without in-person human interaction.

SOLUTION: Lexmark and KDI Office Technology offered Montgomery County Domestic Relations SectionMultifunction Printer Kiosk Solution to provide its citizens with a safe, socially distant way to drop off documents, embracing the healthier practice of eliminating paper exchanging between people. Montgomery County Domestic Relations Section was introduced to this solution and the ability to leverage the use of a Lexmark MFP as a self-service kiosk for their clients. The Kiosk allowed its clients to select their preferred language and submit documents to staff, aiding in the establishment of paternity, and the establishment, modification, and enforcement of support orders. This innovative solution also allows its citizens to scan documents for their government service applications and obtain up-to-date versions of government forms. It furthermore helps agencies to securely collect and digitize documents, and fits into various remote workforce strategies.

OUTCOME: “We are proud of the immediate success the Lexmark Kiosk Solution created for our clientele,” Andrew Henderson, Deputy Director of Montgomery County Domestic Relations Section remarked. “It’s an accessible and innovative, Covid-friendly solution for a government entity that helped us do our part in flattening the curve and spread of Covid-19.” The Kiosk solution helped reduce the potential exposure of germs, viruses, and micro-organisms. It additionally offered the flexibility to maintain their office remotely or on-site, allowing employees to serve citizens with increased speed and efficiency. The Lexmark Kiosk Solution also reduced operating costs as it is less expensive than customized, single-function kiosks.

How Other Organizations Can Learn from this Solution: State and local governments offer a myriad of services to help families, children, seniors, veterans, the disabled, law enforcement, courts, and more. Lexmark solutions have an automatic or touchless print feature reducing the overall contact with workplace surfaces. Users can print jobs without ever touching the panel on the printer, or the large 10” screen can be accessed when wearing gloves, allowing for a safer, cleaner work environment.
